Preface towards the Series

Virtually all Pacific Isle countries count on the sea like a major way to obtain food. Whilst women aren't involved in overseas deep ocean fishing, they can be active in collecting and gleaning shellfish and other edible sea types from the nearshore areas and inside the reef. Women as well prepare fish either for deal or house consumption. Through this preparation procedure, women take part in cleaning, replacing, cooking and selling numerous seafoods. In numerous atoll countries, women are also involved in the maintenance of sea food by drying out or cigarette smoking. In view of could role in fisheries actions and the importance of seafood in the region, it is vital that ladies learn not merely the correct controlling methods for sea food, but also how to use ocean resources properly for the future.

This kind of manual is part of the Community Fisheries Teaching Series, which is designed to meet the wide require lor community fisheries learning the Pacific cycles, particularly for girls. The series was at first developed for the SPC Commumty Education Training Middle (CETC). The fisheries program at CETC began it happened in 1999 as a joint effort with all the USP Marine Studies Programme. It was a reply by the Hub to meet the needs of girls in the region to boost their skills in minor tisheries actions.
