THOUGHT Components

There are six key components:

1) Eligibility -- Locate, identify, & present services to all or any eligible college students with

problems. Must determine that a child has a particular learning handicap in

understanding or using principles through verbal or low verbal means. A child

has to be evaluated by a multidisciplinary panel and assessment must be cost-free

from opinion (racially, culturally, linguistically). Various types of assessments

must be administered. Evaluations must be geared to allow the child to be

involved in the standard curriculum.

2) FAPE – Federal government provides assistance to states to provide a totally free

public education for qualified children with disabilities (regardless of the

severity). Any related services such since occupational therapy must also be

provided in the event deemed required in order for your child to take advantage of special

students requiring extra help passing essential classes.

3) Individualized education program (IEP) – an individualized designed education

policy for each pupil with afflictions. This plan details the current degree of
